Assembling the Freewing Avanti S 90mm EDF Jet is a straightforward process, as most of the electronics, servomotors, EDF unit, and retracts come pre-installed out of the box (PNP version).

Here is a step-by-step assembly guide to get your Avanti S flight-ready:

Key Pre-Assembly Tools & Supplies

  • Included Screws: Included in the box hardware package.

  • Hex / Allen Drivers: Typically 1.5mm, 2.0mm, and 2.5mm.

  • Threadlock (Blue Loctite): Recommended for metal-to-metal connections.

  • Foam-Safe Glue (Optional/Backup): Clear TAC / Foam-Tac (mostly for antennas or minor cosmetics).

Step-by-Step Assembly Instructions

1. Main Wing Installation

  1. Insert Wing Joiner Tube: Slide the main aluminum wing spar through the fuselage pass-through hole.

  2. Connect Cables: Connect the wing wiring harness (servos, LED lights, electric retracts) to the control board/ribbon cables inside the fuselage battery bay.

  3. Attach Wings: Slide both main wing halves over the aluminum spar until they sit flush against the fuselage.

  4. Secure Wings: Fasten the wing assemblies using the provided machine screws from the underside of the fuselage.

2. Horizontal & Vertical Tail Assembly

  1. Horizontal Stabilizers:

    • Pass the horizontal stabilizer carbon joiner rod through the rear of the fuselage.

    • Connect the elevator servo extension leads to the internal elevator wires.

    • Push both horizontal tail halves onto the carbon rod and secure them using the screws provided at the designated mounting points.

  2. Vertical Fin / Rudder:

    • Connect the rudder servo cable and rear LED wiring lead.

    • Slide the vertical tail fin down into the fuselage slot until flush.

    • Secure the vertical fin through the underside or side mounting holes using the specified machine screws.

3. Main Nose & Antenna Details

  1. Nose Cone: Attach the magnetic/screw-on plastic nose cone to the front nose section.

  2. Ventral Fins & Antennas: Glue or press-fit the small scale detailing pieces (ventral fins on the underside rear fuselage and winglets/antennas) into their slots.

4. Radio Receiver (Rx) & Control Setup

  1. Receiver Installation: Secure your 6+ channel receiver inside the battery compartment/fuselage bay using hook-and-loop tape (Velcro).

  2. Connect Controls: Plug the pre-labeled leads from the integrated control box (Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder, Flaps, Gear, Throttle) into their respective receiver channels.

  3. P-Geps / Cleves Check: Ensure all servo pushrod clevises are mechanically centered and fitted with the clear silicon safety keepers.

5. Battery Installation & Center of Gravity (CG)

  1. Flight Battery: Insert a 6S 22.2V 4000mAh–5000mAh (45C+) LiPo with an EC5/IC5 or anti-spark connector into the main tray.

  2. Center of Gravity (CG):

    • CG Location: Approximately 105mm – 115mm back from the leading edge of the wing root (where the wing meets the fuselage).

    • Balance the model inverted (upside down) on your fingertips or a balancing stand with the landing gear deployed. Adjust battery placement forward or aft as needed to achieve correct balance.

6. Pre-Flight Control Checks

  • Control Surfaces Direction: Verify proper deflection direction for Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder, and Flaps.

  • Retract Test: Cycle the main and nose landing gear several times to ensure smooth operation without binding.

  • EDF Thrust Test: Perform a motor rotation check and short high-throttle run to confirm proper power delivery and smooth fan operation.

Recommended Tips

  • Apply a drop of Blue Threadlock to any machine screws threaded into metal brackets.

  • Ensure all wiring inside the battery bay is neatly routed away from the EDF intake and the canopy latch mechanism.
